Elaine Steels Curriculum Vitae


ELAINE STEELS
Originally from Saskatchewan Elaine Steels has spent most of her life either in or around Montréal where her teachers have included, Richard Purdy, François Sullivan and Shelly Reeves. While attending the intensive Atelier D’Art à Charlevoix in St Irenée, Québec,she studied pastel ‘painting’ with Max Steibel.

In 1994 she attended the Concordia University summer painting program in Nimes, France with Parisian artist and teacher Hanibal Srouji. Elaine received her Baccalaureate in Studio and Art History from Concordia University in 1995.

She moved to Toronto in 1997.

Currently, a member of the Neilson Park Creative Centre in Etobicoke she is attends Steve Rose’s non-objective painting classes. 2007-2009 Workshops attended included : Myrtle Beach S.C. with Carla O’Connor and Marilyn Phillis Fleming College of the Arts In Haliburton with Steve Rose and John Leonard and at Neilson Park with Brian Smith and Brian Atyeo.

Elaine served on the Executive and was Studio Convenor of Montreal’s Woman’s Art Society from 1986 to 1989. She was a member of the Arts Club of Montréal from 1991 to 2002 and on their executive for several years.

Her paintings are in private collections throughout Canada and in the United States.
